Antithesis is a figure of speech in which two ideas are set against each other in balanced form for the sake of emphasis.

Example :

1.United we stand ,divided we fall .

Here two ideas are contradictory ,and they are placed against each other to emphasis the idea : United we stand .

2.Art is long ,life is short .

3.Man proposes but God disposes .

4.To err is human ,to forgive is divine.
