 Q. Justify the title of the poem "Asleep In The Valley".

Answer:   The title 'Asleep In the Valley' creates in us a sense of preparedness for the climax. The title of this poem does half the work to unfold the theme it deals with. A  stream flows through a small green valley. The sunrays come out from the mountaintop . The bright sunrays fall on the valley. The valley is flooded with bright beautiful rays of the sun. A young soldier lies asleep on the warm grassy bed .He lies open-mouthed .He is sleeping .He is actually dead and victim of war .A ferny pillow is under his head .He enjoys eternal rest. His bed is warm with bright sunrays .His smile is as innocent as that of an infant's. The soldier's smile simply pricks our conscience .The ' smile ' exposes the hollowness and pity of war .The poet invokes nature to keep the soldier warm because the soldier may be attacked with severe cold .The humming insects don't disturb his rest .He has received two bullets .They cause his death .The title brings in  the pity of war .The title is apt.
