Kanyashree Prakalpa is one of the dream projects of the honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal. It is an initiative taken by the Govt. of West Bengal. In order to reduce dropout rate and prevent early marriage,the government of West Bengal introduced the Kanyashree Prakalpa in 2013.It is a unique conditional cash transfer scheme aiming to educate and empower girls.Under this scheme an unmarried girl child who is 13-18 years old and reading in any recognised school, will get annual scholarship of Rs. 750/- (now Rs 1000/-) if annual income of both her parents is upto 1-2 lakh. A one time payment of Rs. 25000/- is given to a girl on the completion of 18 without being married. This is an initiative to improve the life and status of the girl.This scheme will motivate girls of poor families to persue higher studies. UNICEF has become a partner of the west Bengal government for implementation of Kanyashree scheme. The scheme has become so successful. The United Nation has bestowed its highest Public Service Award on West Bengal for Kanyashree Prakalpa in June 2017.
