Answer :Lomov is an eligible bachelor. He likes Chubukov's daughter Natalya. They are well-known to each other. Lomov feels that he should marry Natalya. Wearing dress jacket and gloves,he visits Chubukov's house with marriage proposal

But Chubukov is least aware of Lomov's proposal. Lomov had met him many times before. He used to come with a request to help him in his trouble. Hence Chubukov thinks that he has come again to ask for his assistance.

In fact, Lomov is responsible for Chubukov's suspicions. First, Lomov did not open his heart to him. Second, the way he starts conversation with Chubukov indicates that he needs some sort of help.
