Someone came knocking At my wee, small door;

But nought there was a stirring

কিন্তু সেখানে কোনও নড়াচড়া ছিল না।


In the still, dark night;

নিশ্চল, অন্ধকার রাত্রে


Only the busy beetle

শুধু ব্যস্ত গুবরেপোকাটি


 Tap-tapping in the wall,

দেয়ালে মৃদু আঘাত করছিল,


Only from the forest

শুধু বন থেকে 


The screech-owl's call,

লক্ষ্মীপ্যাঁচার ডাক,


Only the cricket whistling

শুধু ঝিঝিপোকাটি শিস দেওয়ার মতো শব্দ


While the dewdrops fall,

যখন শিশিরবিন্দু পড়ে,


So I know not who came knocking,

সুতরাং আমি জানি না কে কড়া নেড়ে এল


At all, at all, at all.

আদৌ, আদৌ, আসো।
