Madhyamgram, Kolkata, January 6,2024: A devastating fire broke out in the local market at Madhyamgram, Kolkata. It occurred at 9:00 p.m on 05.01.2024.According to local police sources, the incident took place due to short circuit. There were 100 shops in the market .Local people rushed to the spot and informed the fire brigade. Local police also came to the spot. Besides the fire brigade, members of the disaster response force came and started rescue operation.12 fire engines took two hours to put out the fire. The whole area has been evacuated. It created heavy damaged to local market.20 shops were completely burned. 15 people died . 28 people were injured .Injured people were taken to local hospital (The injured were promptly hospitalized). Local MLA & BDO visited the spot and expressed grief. As a gesture of support, a grant of Rs. 5 lakh was announced for the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.
