 Cyclonic storm 'Remal'  Hits West Bengal and Bangladesh

Kolkata, May 27 2024: A Severe cyclonic storm 'Remal' with a speed of 135 km. Per hour hit Bangladesh and West Bengal yesterday.The cyclone made landfall on West Bengal and Bangladesh's Sundarban Delta, just near the border at 8:30 pm on Sunday, 26 May.It was the first depression and the first cyclonic storm of the 2024 (North Indian Ocean cyclone season).Remal killed at least 84 people including 65 in India and 19 in Bangladesh.The affected areas included   Diamond Harbour,Kakdwip, Bakkhali, Mandarmani, Sagard Island and Namkhana.29500 houses have been damaged. Out of damaged houses,27000 suffered partial damaged while 2500 were completely destroyed.Train services have been disrupted leaving a number of people stranded. The state government has taken immediate steps to provide relief to victims.About 30 million people in Bangladesh and many in West Bengal were affected by power outages.In  West Bengal the chief minister has reviewed the situation and assured the people of all help.
