5. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow: Suryakanta Barik, 30, an English teacher at a private school in Sonarpur
in South 24 paraganas, had told his prospective in-laws well in advance that he would not accept any dowry. On May 14, when Barik arrived in Midnapore's Khejuri to marry Priyanka Bej, 21, a final year student of Music at Mugberia College, he was in for a pleasant surprise. In an unusual break from tradition, the Bej family decided to gift the bridegroom Rs. 1 lakh worth of books.
Barik, a resident of East Midnapore's Hirincli village, said, "I had made it clear that I would not accept any dowry. When I arrived for the wedding, I was pleasantly surprised to find a huge pile of books as gift", Priyank's father Asit Bej, a music teacher, and maternal uncle, Mahadeb Manna, a High School teacher, had travelled to Calcutta Street shops. They also visited the Udbodhan Karyalay, the publishing house of Ramkrishna Math and Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita. The gift included complete works of Rabindranath Tagore,

Man has been called a tool making animal and form his earliest days he has made tools and tried to improve them. His supremacy over other animals was established because of his tools. The tool was an extension of his hand or you may call it a third hand. Machine is nothing but an extension of the tool. Tool and machine raised man above the brute creation. They freed human society from the bondage of Nature. With the assistance from tool and machine man found it easier to produce goods. Machine has encouraged the growth of civilization and it has also encouraged growth of barbarism by producing terrible weapons of warfare and destruction. Instead of being servant of man tool has emerged as his master or mentor.
