The Shepherd and the Wolf
A young shepherd lived near a forest and looked after a flock of sheep. Every day, he took the sheep to graze near the edge of the forest. One day, feeling bored, the shepherd decided to have some fun. He cried loudly, “Wolf! Wolf! Help me!” Hearing his cries, the nearby villagers rushed to help him. When they arrived, they saw no wolf, only the shepherd laughing. The villagers scolded him and went back. The next day, the shepherd repeated his trick. Again, the villagers came running, only to find no wolf. This time, they were angrier but left after warning him. The shepherd enjoyed the joke and thought it was harmless fun. One afternoon, a real wolf appeared near the forest. The shepherd panicked and cried, “Wolf! Wolf! Please help me!” But the villagers, remembering his lies, ignored his cries. The wolf attacked the flock and killed many sheep. The shepherd felt helpless and guilty. He learned a painful lesson that lying can destroy trust, and trust, once lost, is hard to regain.
Moral :
Liars are not believed, even when they tell the truth.
